How to Split a Bill with GST and Service Charge in Singapore

In Singapore, restaurant prices marked "++" have two charges added in a specific order. First, a 10% service charge is added to the subtotal. Then 9% GST is charged on the subtotal plus the service charge — not on the subtotal alone. So a $100 meal becomes $100 + $10.00 service charge + $9.90 GST = $119.90, or about 1.199 times the menu price. This calculator applies that order for you, splits the total equally or by who ate what, and works in whole cents so everyone's shares add up exactly to the bill.

How to use

  1. Choose "Split equally" and enter the subtotal and number of people, or choose "Split by items" to enter each dish and tick who shared it.
  2. Check the service charge (usually 10%) and GST (9%) — set both to 0 if menu prices are already nett.
  3. See exactly what each person owes, then tap "Copy summary" to paste the breakdown into your group chat.

Common use cases

  • Splitting a group dinner where people ordered different dishes and shared some plates.
  • Checking that a restaurant receipt has added service charge and GST correctly.
  • Working out how much to PayNow each friend after one person paid the whole bill.
